They work, they're just very harsh and seem to require more scrubbing. I can strip a gun down, slather it in Citristrip, then put it in a trash bag for about an hour and 90% of the paint will wipe right off with a rag. So spirits might not work anyway. As far as the crud in the corners and crevices goes, reach for your best friend: the old toothbrush! Unbeatable for many small tasks like this. Not much will happen in 30 minutes, so I recommend letting the Citristrip sit as long as you can. After applying a thick coat of the gel, cover it with plastic wrap to prevent it from drying. WebCitristrip is water soluble. Cleanup should be with water, not mineral spirits. I don't know why the idea that mineral spirits is what you need, but it's pervasive on the internet, and wrong. Also, for your next project, pretty much any stripper you can buy is better than Citristrip.
